Principal / Managing Director
John has 50 years experience in the insurance industry, including more than 40 years as an insurance advisor and broker. He is a widely travelled insurance individual having performed risk & insurance consulting assignments in Australasia, Asia, the UK, Europe, and USA.
In 1968 John was appointed Manager of an Australian owned national insurance broker. In 1974 he established his own broking firm, which within eight years had grown to be a national entity with branches in all mainland capital cities. This business was sold to Alexander and Alexander (now AON) in 1981. John continued as a director of Alexander & Alexander assuming various senior national Directorial responsibilities for the next six years. In 1987 he became a consultant to Heath Fielding as the Chairman of The Fielding Consultants, a specialist operation of that broker, then in 1990 moved on to establish Horsell International Pty Ltd as an Australian owned competitor to the international foreign mega brokers.
John was a member of The Wells Fargo Global Broker Network Advisory Committee from 2006 to 2012.
Principal / Chief Operations Officer
Gavan has more than 30 years experience in the general insurance industry, beginning as a corporate underwriter between 1991 to 1995, then making the transition to Corporate broker in roles ranging from account director to divisional director responsible for some of the largest corporate, sporting and international clients in Australia with international brokers (Aon & Heath Lambert) between 1995 to 2004.
In 2005 Gavan joined Horsell International as NSW Broker Manager responsible for all broking and placement operations in NSW. Over the course of Gavan’s career, he has developed specialty experience in institutional property, construction, transport and logistics, Medical malpractice and winery risks.
In 2012 Gavan joined Horsell Duffy Langley as Executive Director responsible for management and service of the broking operations of the firm.
Principal / Chairman
Andrew commenced his Insurance Broking career in 1968 when he joined his brother’s broking company. The business was then purchased by the UK listed Alexander Howden Group and Andrew joined the Australian Board of Howden’s. During his period with Howden’s, Andrew continued to advise his former clients as well as developing opportunities in the larger Corporate arena. Following further mergers and acquisitions this firm became the US broking firm of Alexander and Alexander (A&A).
Andrew was invited to join the Australian board of A&A and to continue his previous role. In 1987’s, Andrew and a number of his colleagues accepted an approach to form a partnership and work within the Heath Fielding Broking Group (HFA). Andrew subsequently joined the board of HFA and during his 9 years with the group, he was appointed NSW Managing Director and was instrumental in developing a number of Corporate accounts. In 1996 Andrew left HFA to join Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) as a director where he remained for 14 years, during which time he was responsible for obtaining the broking appointment of a number of large Australian companies including Woolworths, George Weston, Pacific National, Cement Australia, James Hardie and Boral. His role involved the design, placement and service responsibilities for these accounts as well as his contribution to the Group at a Board level.
In 2010 Andrew decided to retire from executive duties. In November 2013 Andrew took on the role as Chairman of Horsell Duffy Langley, to assist the company during its rapid expansion from 2012.
